VISITING - MONTRAW

On the rare occasion a new restaurant opens in Berlin, I get the privilege of trying, and I am blown away…

Montraw, although located in a highly populated area in Berlin, busy with tourist as well as by many local families, it is nestled alone a quiet neighbourly street, lined with ever growing trees that form a natural shelter with their tangled and clasping branches.  Dining in Berlin but away from the hustle and bustle, we were instinctively intrigued…

Homemade, creative cocktails and complimentary hors d’oeuvres began the meal to remember and soon we were tasting tapas style entrees - Fish Crudo of hamachi, preserved lemon vinaigrette, fig puree, shallots, chilli, radish, mint, Eggplant Bruschetta of smoked eggplant with tomatoes, olive oil, lime, chilli, cilantro and feta cheese and Panzanella Salad burrata cheese, tomatoes, herbs, anchovy, red onion, smoked croutons and olive puree - that each had such striking natural flavours and unique textures.

For mains, the culinary creativity and visual appeal continued with the Octopus A La Plancha, charred octopus, chickpea and mushroom stew, tahini, spanish paprika and cilantro, and Gnocchi Parisienne, cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil, arugula, butter, white wine. It was not only refreshing to see the use of raw ingredients along side other cooking methods but also how the team at Montraw used seasonal produce to accompany their own personal flair. This flair seems to be undesirable through words, but wholly present through the senses - now it’s your turn to taste…
