At the moment with everyone stuck at home it can feel like hours are blurring into days, if not weeks. There is however a simple, enjoyable and fun activity that solves this problem and can take care of your overriding desire for a drink, even at 11am. The concept stems from a term coined in the art world; Arte Povera, and adapted to “Cuisine de Povera”.  Literally meaning poor kitchen.  With the emphasis being to make great food and drinks with simple, yet high quality, and available ingredients. So if this is what the new decade of 2020 has brought us, then we might need to adjust and find a new normal by enjoying the simpler things in our own kitchen.

One of my go too’s for an easy, delicious cocktail that anyone can get their hands on in a matter of a few minutes is the Kyro Mule, a cocktail collaboration between ROY Kombucha and Kyrö Distillery.

In response to needs, desires and cravings during this time but finding this with ease as well as being economically suitable and financially viable, I bring you a cocktail collaboration with ROY Kombucha and Kyrö Distillery - The Kyrö Mule.

Kombucha or other wise known as Kombucha tea is produced by fermenting tea. This fermentation occurs using a symbiotic process with a culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). This system of fermentation and thus process has been labelled “mother” or “mushroom”. During this process, the sweetened black or green tea is broken down and releases organic acids. It is within these organic acids that many people have witnessed, first hand, the positive and life transforming effects when drinking kombucha.

Kombucha is consumed on a global basis for its health benefits. These benefits have found to impact and be transformative in the following areas;

  • gut health

  • cancer reduction

  • heart disease

  • mental health

  • type 2 diabites

  • liver infection

  • weight lose

  • Inflamation

There has been no scientific studies to confirm or deny these effects but the vast human belief in first hand experience proves it’s varying impact and effects.

Now, let’s be clear - adding alcohol to kombucha does NOT eliminate or even reduce the health benefits found within the fermented tea. Actually some even say it adds a positive element to drinking… no hangover!
With this in mind, think of these mottos will you whip up one of these beauties at midday to reassure yourself you haven’t got or won’t develop a drinking problem.

Kyrö Mule

Ingredients

  • Best to get yourself your very own ROY/Kyrö Cocktail box

  • This contains everything for a speedy drink and saves you from famenting your own Kombucha or brewing gin which are both lengthy and complicated procedures best left to professionals.

  • Lime, juiced (I used orange for presentation only). Kyrö pushes that lime is the best citrus to compliment their distilled gin and therefore is best for this cocktail

  • Ice cubes or if you want to get fancy some crushed ice.
